Golf in Germany

Feb 21, 2006 - Linknet Travel News - To play golf in Germany, most golfers must possess a license called a Platzreife before they can get on the course. To get a Platzreife it usually costs at least $300 for a five-day course. Each day involves several hours of training. At the end of the course you must pass a series of tests, including shooting no more than 108 for 18 holes.

Follow up:

Although many countries claim to require official handicaps of visiting golfers, Germany is the only country in Europe that has a legally sanctioned proficiency requirement of native golfers. The unusual policy is meant to keep unskilled players off the golf links. It also reinforces the elitist image of golf in a country where there are no public courses.

If you are visiting and want to play a round or two, make sure you bring a handicap card from your home club.

Out of the way places to play golf around the world. We look for places you won't read about in the big golf magazines.
